YOUR TRADE MARK AND
FACEBOOK
Facebook is a concept that has become
fairly well known to the people that use the site - and to the businesses that
seek to stop employees from using it during work hours! To those that are not
that familiar with it, it is a free-to-use social networking website that people
use to connect with people and to share photographs, thoughts, conversations
with etc.
Facebook Inc, the company behind the
concept and the operators of the website, are now introducing the possibility
for it's users to create and register their own usernames. This will change the
link to their personal profile which will now incorporate that username, rather
than a string of numbers and digits. For example, if we created a profile on
Facebook for DM Kisch Inc, the new link or URL would be www.facebook.com/dmkisch. We regard
our company name and the DM Kisch trademark as an important asset of the firm,
and would obviously not want anybody else to register a Facebook username that
incorporates it. Facebook Inc, mindful of these concerns of trade mark owners,
is accordingly allowing trade mark owners to protect their trade mark against
this by submitting information about the trade mark to Facebook.
If you would like to protect your
trade mark from misappropriation by unauthorized Facebook users, simply fill in
the form at http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=username_rights
or get in touch with your usual DM kisch contact.
